About the Course

Making Friends With Yourself (MFY) is an empirically-supported, 8-sessions mindful self-compassion course designed to help and support teens in cultivating the skill of self-compassion to cope more effectively with their ongoing challenges.

Teens and young adults face enormous stresses and challenges in their day-to-day-lives. From peer pressure, self-esteem, social-media, negative moods, academic and parental demands, relationships and dating to preparing for your future - All these and more whirl combine to make this period of life difficult to navigate and enjoy.

The goal of this course is to help teens turn toward the emotional ups and downs of this life stage with greater ease, to offer them specific tools for recognizing and managing their struggles, and to help them learn how to meet these struggles with kindness and compassion.

You will learn:

  • how to pay attention on purpose

  • how to manage difficult emotions

  • how to motivate yourself with encouragement rather than criticism

  • how to communicate with yourself and others in a more compassionate voice

  • mindfulness and self-compassion practices for home and everyday life

  • the theory and research behind mindful self-compassion

Who should apply:

  • Teens who are facing challenges in life and looking for a way to better cope with their struggles

  • Teens who want to be more resilient and build on their emotional intelligence

  • Age 13 to 20
